The ABC’s of Premaculture Green Design Print E-mail
As an integral part of the Permaculture Movement, would be to serve, inform and prepare its citizens in the essential awareness of living in harmony with their environment. This would underscore the following core design principles found at The Permaculture Village at the Festival of Arts grounds.

A. Passive Solar Heating and Cooling
Careful orientation and design allows thermal performance and comfort far in advance of standard office and residential buildings.

B. Natural Lighting
Design for natural lighting by the careful placement of roof  monitors and windows in relationship to spatial layout means no artificial lights will be needed during daylight hours.

C. Production of Electricity on Site
Use of photovoltaic cells on the roof and structures with an inverter and utility tie system allows passive production of yearly needs of electricity. Use of wind turbines allowing for income generation as excess power can be sold back to the grid.

D. Collection and reuse of rainwater
Careful    integration of roofs,    gutters, filters and storage tanks would allow collection and reuse of thousands of gallons of water yearly to demonstrate the attainable reality of water conservation potentials in California.
 

green_building1.gifE. Emphasis on the Use of Sustainable and Healthful “Green” Building Materials
Construction using alternative building materials, adobe, straw and or other designs that in addition of creating the most healthful structure both physically and environmentally contribute to the education of the public as core examples of what can be achieved through alternative construction technology building materials, methods and practices.

F. Edible landscapes education
Reference to natural processes in the building and landscape forms within the indoor and outdoor environment, educational clues will key to users unique settings and natural processes occurring on the site. Reflection of local natural and constructed forms will be reflected in the details of the landscapes.
